A new pair of safety shoes is due to arrive in Dublin later this month.
The Irish Times understands the shoes were made by a company called Safety Gear, which was started by a pair of Dublin residents who decided to give their business a go.
They say the shoes are intended to reduce the risk of fall injury, which can lead to serious illness and even death.
The shoe company was founded by a man and a woman, who have now decided to open a second business in Dublin.
The pair say they have been training for three years and they have designed and built several safety products including safety boots.
The men have worked for the company for three and a half years and the women for two.
The company is located at the corner of the Irish National Gallery and the Gardiner.
Mr Máire Cáthara, the owner, said he was “really proud” to be the first Irish company to make shoes specifically for the Dublin community.
He said the men wanted to create a shoe that was affordable for the middle class.
“I wanted to make something that would go with the way we dressed and that we could wear,” he said.
Mr Cáchara said the pair had also made shoes for a number of other towns in the US, and they wanted to do it in Ireland.
“We just wanted to offer something that was good for people,” he explained.
Mr Glyn Coghlan, the founder, said they wanted people to feel confident walking in their own shoes.
“You can get some pretty bad ones out there, but the best are very comfortable and the best make you feel good,” he added.
The shoes are made of a mixture of leather, nylon and polyester.
The design of the shoe is unique, as is the size of the foot.
They are designed to fit men who are shorter than average and women who are taller than average.
The women’s size will be available in mid-July and the men’s in mid October.
Mr Coghlans mother is from Dún Laoghaire in Co Cork, and he has been training to be a shoe manufacturer in Dublin for the last two years.
The business started in 2011 and the shoes have been sold to a number people in the city.
“It’s an experience that I will be proud to be part of,” Mr Coghlane said.
“The whole experience of wearing the shoes is just a feeling of pride and the whole time you feel like you are wearing a piece of history.”
The men say they were inspired by the success of the US footwear company Reebok.
