FIFA has updated its safety guidelines to help runners stay safe at the 2018 Women’s Olympic Games in Brazil.
The update comes as some athletes prepare to begin running in full-body protective gear.
FIFA released the updated rules on Tuesday, July 14.
The rules state runners should wear helmets with a visor that covers the face and chest, a nose guard and a face mask.
Runners should also wear eye protection, ear protection and an athletic jacket that covers a torso and arms.FIFA’s Safety Advisory Committee (SAAC) has also updated the regulations, saying that athletes should wear protective footwear that doesn’t get caught in the wind and that runners should only wear a protective boot and gloves.
The organization also updated its “Athlete Safety Guide,” which outlines all of the essential safety information to help athletes plan for the event.
